Bushcraft knife

Friday, October 21st, 2011

Rory Conner Bushcraft Explorer €189This Bushcraft Explorer knife was designed as its name implies for serious outdoor use and come in a well made custom

shoulder leather belt sheath which was specially designed to be used in the field.

With a long drop point 4¼“ (11cm) full tang blade that has been hand ground from thick sturdy 5mm D2 carbon steel, this   blade has been flat ground, which makes an easier profile to follow for honing or sharpening especially when in the field.

Even with a thick & very strong 5mm steel blade stock thickness it has not effected Rory’s development of a good cutting

edge. Probably this is because the first taper grind begins about two thirds across the blade making it very useable in

situations where a thick back would normally become clumsy.

The handle is made from a wood laminate which is bolted to the tang for durability & strength and at the end of the handle

is a good sized brass lined lanyard hole which is always useful and very important when in a situation where the knife could

be lost for example, over water, climbing or when being handled in cold conditions.

This all makes for a very sturdy working knife designed to be used in the field where a strong multiple use knife is needed

for the many tasks a bushcraft or explorer devote needs to carry out, or even for those who are just involved in the many

other country pursuits that this knife would lend itself to.

The Rory Conner Bushcraft Explorer knife has a 9” (22.5cm) overall length (out of the sheath) and the total weight of knife

in its sheath is 11½oz (328gms).

To accompany this knife the sheath is a thick, formed & blocked, shoulder leather custom sheath. The design encloses the

knife in a version of the tube sheath with the addition of a retaining press stud. This retaining stud ensures the knife does

not come out of the sheath even when turned upside down (for example in a climbing situation) As an addition to this

sheath design, sewn into the sheath edge is a 1¾” (5cm) leather tube loop for the storage of a Firesteel (not supplied)

In all an excellent custom made knife for the multiple uses it was intended & priced at €189 for a quality custom knife this

 represents good value for money
